food test: starbucks (february 2014)

Published February 28, 2014 by ladyemelye

i will be labeling all the “testing” of new food/drink offerings under “food test”.  so here is what i’ve had from starbucks this february:

cold pasta, chorizo cheese spread with crostini

the box includes a small portion of penne pasta with olive oil, herbs and chili flakes, container of chorizo cheese spread and a pack of crostini.

the serving was just enough for a quick snack.  the flavor of the pasta was ok.  it was the chorizo cheese spread that i really liked.  it has the right balance of the flavor of the chorizo that blended nicely with the cheese.  i even used the leftover spread with my crackers. 😉

OT.  question from the starbucks partner: “should the cold pasta be warmed”? 😀

hazelnut macchiato

hazelnut macchiato

starbucks is introducing their “macchiato mondays” and with this, they launched the hazelnut macchiato.  i got this by redeeming my stars (some of which were about to expire come march).

for me, the hazelnut flavor was not too pronounced in this drink.  i found myself looking for it.  i don’t know if it is because i got the iced version and the hot drink would be much better.  for me, i would still prefer the chestnut macchiato they introduced the month before.

cherry blossom tumbler

starbucks have released this year’s designs for the cherry blossom festival.  they have new tumblers and mugs.  i love the cherry blossom, and i almost impulsively buy items with this design. 😉  so today, i got a new tumbler.  it is so cute and girly.  plus, i like the new top cover of the tumbler which you slide to open and close.

wonder what is in store in the next months…

a trip to the emerald city

Published February 21, 2014 by ladyemelye

i have a fondness for watching musicals and/or theater plays.  i’ve watched cinderella, avenue q, potted potter and CATS.  unfortunately, i wasn’t able to watch miss saigon and phantom of the opera.

i’ve always wanted to watch wicked, and for a time i thought that i should plan a trip to singapore when this show is being run so that i could catch it.  but early last year, due to the clamor of filipino fans, there was a rumour that wicked will be finally having it’s manila run.  i patiently waited for news and updates and once the tickets started being sold by ticket world, i immediately told my tito marlon who is also into plays.  we bought tickets during the “pre-selling” for VISA cardholders.  we got a matinee show for the first weekend of the run.  this was last september (2013) and january (2014) just couldn’t come fast enough.

finally, the day came. 🙂  we were a little early at the venue, so we had time to browse along the souvenir shops (oz dust shop) and had some photos taken. 😀

excited to watch wicked!

i have read the summary and plot of the play so i kind of know how the story will go.  once we were let inside the theater, a took a picture of the stage.  in it was shown the clock of the time dragon whose eyes lit up and moves whenever something magical is happening onstage.  a map of oz was also shown.

the stage set and props were very good and it was amazing how they switched from one scene to another.  the cast members were very energetic and you could tell that they were relating to the audience.  glinda was really funny and i enjoyed watching her.  of course elphaba was magnificent.  especially the defying gravity scene.  the song was very powerful and it gave me goosebumps all over.  the visual effects of elphaba levitating in the air and flying was stunning.

you will really be engaged in the story of wicked up until the end.  it is a mixture of wit, fun, and a heartwarming message of friendship.  i loved every minute of the play, and it was very much worth if.

wonder what is the next play which the will be bringing to manila?  let us be ready for it.  in the meantime, excuse me while i put my headphones on and listen to the wicked soundtrack…

eq diapers: good customer service

Published February 19, 2014 by ladyemelye

i’ve never really stuck to a brand when it comes to diapers for my baby.  there are a few that i buy more that the others, but i could settle for another brand in the event one is not available.  add to the fact that i am also cloth diapering my baby, and as much as possible he only wears diapers when we go out or at nighttime.

when he was born, we used pampers.  her ninangs gave him a diaper cake of eq diapers during his dedication so we also used that.  when pampers introduced a “new design”, i did not like it very much since it seems to sag.  so i switched to mamy poko slim diapers.  but my baby is now a little boy that the xl size of mamy poko no longer fits him.  i tried looking for a 2xl size but did not find any.  we tried drypers weewee dry but i also did not like it.  so we ended up with eq dry again.  i noticed that eq’s diaper seem a little larger than usual size so we just bought a pack of xl diapers.

so, when i got the used the first diaper in the pack, i was kind of satisfied on how it fit my baby.  but after a few hours that he had been wearing it, my baby was complaining and he was pointing to his diaper.  that is when we saw that the tape has come off (not from the “sticky” side but from the panel in the back.  at first i thought it was just normal since i would encounter this in a diaper or two before.  but we were in the 4th diaper from that pack and the same thing was still happening.  so i took a photo of the diaper and sent a complaint to eq.

i reached them via email and through a private message in facebook.  after a day, i received a reply asking for details and contact numbers so that they can reach out to us directly.  it seems that it is indeed a defective pack and they promised to send a replacement pack via courier.

the next day, we received the brand new pack from eq.  they were very competent in handling customer complaints and was very eager to rectify their mistakes, and for that they should be commended.

now, that is what i call customer service.  i hope all the companies in our country would be like this.  the customer may not be always right, but you should be able to handle their queries and situations.

as for LBC and Jollibee… well, that’s another story which hasn’t been resolved yet.

holy week 2013: la traviesa

Published February 8, 2014 by ladyemelye

for our holy week escapade last year, i got a voucher from ensogo (now living social) for an overnight stay at la traviesa.  the voucher included an overnight stay for 8 adults in an attic room, plated breakfast and use of their facilities.

it was good that the voucher is valid even though we used it during the holy week holidays.  usual check-in and check-out times were followed.  we arrived at the resort at around 3pm.  after the usual procedure for checking in, we settled into our rooms.

the attic room was very spacious.  there were a total of 3 double beds + 1 bed with a pull out.  the room also included a toilet and bath plus a personal refrigerator, lcd tv and phone.  we had 6 adults + 3 children occupying the room.

after getting our things in order, we settled ourselves in a cottage near the pool where we had our food.  the resort was not strict in bringing in of food and beverages.  we even bought our iwatani portable stove with us so that we can cook and reheat our food.

after eating, everyone proceeded to hit the pools.  the resort has a separate kiddie pool and an adult infinity pool.

swimming pool

most of us swam until around dinner time.  after dinner, a number of us tried out the services in their spa.  i availed of the package which included a body scrub + massage for php 1200.00.  the spa facility was nice and relaxing, and the therapists and staff were very courteous and helpful.  they even provided us with disposable underwear for our treatment.  the scrub and massage was thorough and soothing, and i enjoyed it.

complimentary breakfast was plated, and the choice of filipino or american breakfast.  we ordered the tocino, tapa, bangus and bacon.  it came with either coffee or hot choco.  breakfast was served in our room.  service was a little slow as we had to follow up several times before our food was served even though we already called in our orders the night before.  the coffee and hot chocolate (which all came in instant sachets) took even longer that most of us were already finish eating when it arrived.

after breakfast, the kids hit the pool again until it was time for us to fix ourselves and our things and check out of the resort.

overall, i would say that we got the value of what we paid for.  the resort and its facilities were good but it could still be improved a lot, especially on the service.

anyone who is looking for a quick family getaway, or even just for day swimming, i would recommend going to this resort.
