security is a must these days. hackers are everywhere trying to get into your accounts – email, facebook, etc. so in addition to the password/notification that google has if your account was accessed from an unusual notification, i started using google authenticator.
google authenticator is an application which you can download to your smartphone. it generates random codes which you input after you login with your username and password into your google accounts. it is a little bit of extra work, but it makes sure that you are the one logging in to your account.
how to activate this in your gmail? simple steps:
- in your account, go to settings
- click on the account tab
- go to change account settings and select other google account settings
- click on security tab
- enable the two-step verification
you can also opt to have the code be sent to your mobile phones if you do not have the app installed. you just have to make sure that your phone is always with you when you access your account.
it may be an inconvenience, but it is better to be vigilant. let us not be a victim of online hacking.
